September Coffee Subscription

September 13, 2017 Elliot Reinecke

Hello everyone!

We are going to be forgoing the monthly emails and have all information about the coffees for the subscription here on the blog.  We encourage interaction in the comments about your own brewing method, techniques, and tasting notes with the different coffees we are sending out each month.

First Coffee for all subscribers, Caficultores

We have a new coffee entering the shop this month that we plan on keeping around for a while...a Colombia from the Huila region.  Our supplier/importer grew up in South America, and has had a great relationship with this Co-Op in Colombia.  The full name of the Co-Op is Cooperativa de Caficultores del Departamento del Huila or CADEFIHUILA.  This coffee has been doing great as batch brew for us, as well as pourovers and aeropresses at the house.

Tasting notes - Burnt sugar, almond, buttery finish
Region - Colombia, Huila
Farmer - Co-Op de Caficultores
Cultivar - Caturra, Castillo, Colombia & Typica
Process - Fully washed and dried in the sun
Altitude - 1400-2000 masl
Harvest - May-July & October-December
Soil - Volcanic Loam

Second coffee for two bag subscribers, Space Traveler

It's possible that many of you have had our wonderful "do it all" blend in the past, but it is going through some changes.  We are just about finished with the crops that this blend originated from, and have replaced it with similar but different crops.  It is still a washed Guatemalan and Natural Ethiopian, but from different farmers and mills.  (I am still waiting on some final details regarding the farms, so I will post those shortly.)  The Space traveler is still a do it all coffee that can be enjoyed through all brewing methods, we feel that it still has a nice chocolatey/caramel base, with some red and blue fruit notes on the finish.

Hey Elliot. Forgot to include the amount of grounds used in my first pass.

    Grounds: 19g
    Extraction: .85oz

I’m playing around with the grind to get the extraction up.
